Thirteen congressional representatives sent a letter today to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, ahead of a key donor conference on Afghanistan being held in Tokyo later this week. The letter highlights the critical role of the extractives sector in Afghanistan's development over the next decade.

Signatories are calling on Secretary Clinton to commit to concrete benchmarks and safeguards for an emerging extractives industry in Afghanistan at the Conference; and guard against the resource curse taking root in an already volatile context.
